About Miss Dutch
Miss Dutch is a worldwide pageant for the people who learn Dutch on purpose.
It is gendered the way Eurovision is gendered, which is to say not really, which is to say absolutely.
Right now
Why the title is doing the work
Miss as in pageant. Miss as in missen, the Dutch verb for longing. Every contestant misses Dutch. The words. The belonging. The version of themselves that would speak it freely. That ache is the spine of the competition.
Anyone wins. The 56 year old Brazilian dad in Amsterdam who learned for his daughter. The 23 year old Korean grad student rebuilding her life in Groningen. The Belgian who finally got the words right. The Italian who refuses to pretend Dutch is a dialect. You.
How it works
Submit a thirty second video in Dutch. You hear back within minutes.
Five judges listen. Each through their own lens. Strenge Lerares for grammar and pronunciation. Hippe Amsterdammer for register and authenticity. Oma Ina for warmth and your story. The Cynical Critic for charisma and watchability. Luuk himself as the wildcard.
Each judge leaves you a personal voice note in Dutch. With a translation if you are not fluent yet.
Three monthly rounds. One live finale on YouTube in September 2026.
De Vuile Ronde
The round that proves who is really Dutch fluent and who has been polishing every other take for hours.
A scenario reveals on screen for twenty seconds. The recorder starts automatically. You get sixty seconds. No retakes. No edits. The judges hear it raw.
Scenarios cover Albert Heijn, schoonmoeders met haring, Tikkies from people you barely know, and the Dutch art of doe maar gewoon.
The proof of listening
Every voice note our judges leave references one specific thing the contestant actually said. The judges adapt to your accent, your motivation, your country, your age. They are not generic feedback machines. They are five characters with rubrics that contestants screenshot and send to their group chat.
What this is not
It is not a quiz. It is not a CEFR test. It is not a marketing funnel disguised as a competition.
It is a yearly cultural moment for the people who learn Dutch on purpose. The first edition crowns one Miss Dutch in September 2026. The sash is real. The documentary is real.
Frequently asked
Do I have to be a beginner?
No. Beginners and B2 plus contestants are both welcome. The judges score relative to your effort, not your level.
Do I need to look a certain way?
No. The pageant title is gendered the way Eurovision is gendered, which is to say not really, which is to say absolutely. Any age, any gender, any background.
Where does the patron money go?
When the patron tier launches, all proceeds will fund Dutch language education in the contestant home country. Audited and public.
Can I see other auditions?
Only ones whose owner gave consent appear on the public Wall at /muur.
Is this AI generated?
The judges are five distinct characters that listen to your real voice and react in real Dutch. The voices are synthesized so they show up exactly the same every time. Their rubrics are public, their feedback is original to your audition.
